Family Stories
Home-Start volunteers support families for a couple of hours each week, for as long as the family needs this, or until their youngest child turns five, or starts school or full-time nursery. This remarkable agreement to help and be helped can lead to some amazing results. See the stories below...
Michael’s story
Michael is a 56 year old grandfather who is raising his three granddaughters on his own because of their mum’s heroin and alcohol dependency. Michael didn’t want to see his granddaughters end up in the care system. He wanted them to have a better life. He stepped in to help, and Home-Start stepped in to help him.
Nabilah’s story
"Without Home-Start and without Val, I don't think I would be here anymore, I would have quit..."
Neil’s story
Bringing up a child on your own is no easy feat, but when you have a child with a terminal illness life can be a real struggle and very lonely.
