Could Netmums help you too?
In October 2005 Netmums and Home-Start linked up to promote each others' services
What is Netmums?
Netmums is a local network for mums and dads aimed at helping parents cope and enjoy being a parent. It has:
- 120 local websites covering every area of the country
- a membership of 115,000 parents
- you're looking for a local parent and toddler group, pre-school or childcare
- you are desperate for somewhere new to take the kids
- you would like to make some new friends in your area
- ......and in many other situations
Why have Netmums and Home-Start got together?
The link-up is part of a BT-sponsored national project to help organisations that support families to work more closely together.Called the Family Network it will use the Netmums website to link together:
- Home-Start: parents supporting other parents through a UK-wide network of volunteers.
- Contact A Family: for families with disabled children in the UK.
- Women's Aid Federation of England: for women and children experiencing physical, sexual or emotional abuse in their homes in England.
Sally Russell founder of Netmums talks about the link up with Home-Start:
"Netmums offers information about places to go, things to do and how to meet other mums in the area. But sometimes, parents need a bit more than Netmums can offer. They need real life support - with someone calling in on them. Perhaps they are struggling with depression, debt, relationship problems or are just overwhelmed by the demands of young children. Home-Start can offer this support and friendship to parents at a time when they really need it. We hope that through Netmums we can introduce parents in the area who need support to this tremendous organisation which can build their confidence as parents. And we are encouraging parents to volunteer for Home-Start to support other parents too."How to find Netmums:
