Big Tea Party 2005

Hundreds of Big Tea Parties were held all over the UK (and some in Belgium, Germany and Cyprus too!). Most involve friends, families or colleagues getting together over a cup of tea and a few sandwiches at a 'classic' Big Tea Party. Thank you everyone. But here we've listed a few of the more adventurous ideas too.

Check out the pictures too.

Fife
, Scotland: Staff, volunteers and trustees from the six Home-Start Schemes in Fife are doing a relay walk of the 85-mile long Fife coastal path using a cup of tea as the baton. 4th - 9th September.

And in one Fife scheme, children will be dressing up as tea bags to play a 'pick up the teapot' game.

Bedford, England: Home-Start Bedford is having an Indian Tea Party, inviting people to come and enjoy a cup of Chaa. The event includes an auction of promises, a bring and buy sale, a cake stall and lots of indian refreshments, music, costumes, and mendhi (henna hand decoration).

Richmond, England: The 10th anniversary party of Home-Start Richmond will be a Big Tea Party for 400 people, with music, reflexology and massages.

Swindon, England: Home-Start Swindon's Big Tea Party will be held in a Sikh temple.

North Down, Northern Ireland, Boston, England and Pinfold Gate Nursery in Loughborough, England: are having Mad Hatter's tea parties and hat parades.

Also in North Down, Northern Ireland: Rachel planned a party on her boat, but can't fit everyone on - so she's having a Party On The Deck instead - in her garden. Beauticians and florists will give demonstrations, there are hairdressing vouchers up for grabs, and a plant sale. She describes it as a 'mini fete'.

Lincoln, England: On Saturday 3rd September, two Home-Start volunteers are climbing up Grimsby Dock Tower to raise money for Home-Start.

A slightly more down-to-earth tea party will be held in Lincoln's Arboretum Park on Saturday 17th September.

New Forest
, England: The Stables Tea Room in Hyde (complete with donkeys outside the door) will be donating a percentage of the sales of the refreshments sold on 10th and 11th September to the Big Tea Party campaign. It will also be running a raffle for the whole of the campaign fortnight.

East Lothian, Scotland: got a head start and held their Big Tea Party in August. They raised £338 from donated baking, a raffle and the auction of a mirror framed in East Lothian driftwood, made by a local Home-Start volunteer. The money will be used to pay for the annual families' Christmas party.

Sittingbourne and Sheppey
, England. The local Home-Start scheme is offering to deliver morning or afternoon tea to employees in local companies - and raising money in the process.

Amber Valley
, England: A giant cardboard tea pot is being built. And a Big Tea Party is being held during a fashion show on 6th September.

Chorley and South Ribble
, England: will hold an East Meets West Tea Party, serving English and Asian tea and cakes.

Lisburn, Northern Ireland: two tea dances are being organised. And we have heard of one 'Tea and Tipple' party too.

Nottingham
and Herefordshire: are holding balloon races and balloon releases as part of their tea parties.

Barnet, England: 100 people are expected at Avenue House for a Big Tea Party.

Dalraida
, Northern Ireland: people have been t-shirt painting and painting plates during August for their T-shirt themed Big Tea Party in September.

Wellingborough, England: a local hairdresser's will be serving coffee, tea and biscuits to customers to raise money for Home-Start.

Abroad: Tea parties are also being held at Home-Start's British Forces Schemes in Cyprus, Germany and even at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium.

quote

The support offered by Home-Start is invaluable as it is offered in a way that is so acceptable; not by a professional who professes to know all the answers but by a volunteer, another parent who can empathise.
