Home-Start Carol Concert 2007

10 December 2007, Royal Hospital Chelsea.
More than 250 guests- many of them long term supporters of Home-Start, attended the concert which took place in the chapel at the Royal Hospital, followed by a drinks reception in the Great Hall of the hospital. Readers included: Rosalind Ayres, Martin Jarvis, (pictured here), Paul Moriarty, Tim Pigott-Smith and Maroussia Richardson, the widow of Ian Richardson (who died a few weeks after reading last year's concert).

The welcome address was given by Michala Maughan, Chair of the London Fundraising Committee, a team of just four amazing volunteers who have raised almost £14,000 for Home-Start this year.

London based investment company Rensburg Sheppards was this year's sponsor and invited 100 of its clients to the evening. It also covered the cost of the event, which means that every penny raised will come directly to Home-Start UK.

Minister learns about Home-Start's unique family support service

28 February 2007, Westminster.

"Many families these days don't have a consistent friend and advocate, and that's one of the things that Home-Start is offering", said Hilary Armstrong MP, Social Exclusion Minister, during a fact-finding visit to Home-Start Westminster on 28th February.

The minister learned how Home-Start's volunteers support all families through home-visiting and group work - including some of the most socially isolated parents and children. "It's very reassuring to see that there are ways of reaching the most vulnerable and the most isolated," she said after her visit.

Survey repeated at Welsh National Eisteddfod

5-12 August 2006. Swansea.

Home-Start attended the Welsh National Eisteddfod for the second year running, and repeated its straw poll to see how parents' lives change once they have children, and to also see what makes different family members happy.

The survey was first run in 2005 when results revealed that while the roles of dads and grandparents in raising children is changing, it is mums who continue to carry the heaviest burden.

In 2006 the results showed fathers felt the greatest changes to their lives.
