A day to remember...
On Sunday 12th July over two hundred London Home-Start families enjoyed a day out at Notting Hill's Electric Cinema. The event was funded by the Cyrus and Priya Vandrevala Foundation. The foundation was looking to work with a charity that helped families and children and wanted to offer a day to remember for families who do not ever get these opportunities.
Children and their parents were treated to a private viewing of Monsters v Aliens and the minute they sat down in the armchair-style seats, the food and drinks started flowing. In every seat was a bottle of water, a tub of popcorn and a selction of pick 'n' mix sweets. Electric Cinema staff waited on the families and brought around fish and chips, pasta, strawberries, chocolate brownies, ice cream and fruit smoothies.
Once the film had finished all children were given goody bags from Harrods and a Monsters v Aliens balloon to take away.
Families at the event included children who had parents serving in Afghanistan, mums with children who had autism, and children from disadvantaged backgrounds. One Home-Start member of staff said that for many of these children it would be the only day out they have this year.
One mum said: "This day will stay with me for the rest of my life. My children felt completely spoilt and they have not stopped talking about it ever since! I cannot thank the people responsible for this event enough."
Another said: "What a lovely, generous thing to do. Every single child in the cinema looked like they were thoroughly enjoying themselves. I'm always having to say 'no' to my children when they ask for treats, because I do not have the money. So for once, my children were able to have a day out like other children, though you would have to go a long way to beat this!"
Families came from the following London Home-Starts:
Bromley, Camden, Ealing, Greenwich, Hounslow, Kingston, Lambeth, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Westminster.
