National Family Week 2011
Home-Start supports National Family Week for the third year running
National Family Week is the largest celebration of family life in the UK. With thousands of events - as well as competitions and special offers – we’re encouraging families to eat, read, play, explore and get active together in the summer half term holidays.
Due to the ongoing success from the past two years, National Family Week is back again in 2011.
From the 30th May to the 5th June, family life is celebrated with a whole range of events spread right across the UK.
The week involves thousands of record-setting, action packed, fun filled family events to encourage families to spend more quality time together and lead healthy, active lifestyles. There's also a whole host of special offers and competitions from some of the country's biggest family brands to help make spending fun family time together easy and affordable.
Home-Start schemes and their families are getting involved with a whole series of events across the week, including:
- Family Food: host a picnic and encourage families to round up their nearest and dearest, bring a rug and some healthy picnic food to join in the fun.
- Family Learning: host your own story telling event and encourage families to share a story, anytime, any place, anyhow!
- Family Safety: contact a local service provider, for example the Safer Neighbourhood Team or local fire service to come in and talk about safety awareness issues.
- Family Environment: organise a Big Tidy Up and families can make a valuable contributionhelping to tidy up their local area.
- Family Health & Fitness: organise your very own family sports day event where familiesenter as a team. The course could include an obstacle course, a family relay race, hoola hooping, as well as a sack race or egg and spoon race.

For Home-Start Paderborn, this is their third year of involvement with National Family Week. They will be holding various events across the week. This year many of their garrisons are being deployed to Afghanistan, so National Family Week is especially poignant for them.
