HRH Princess Alexandra

The day the Princess visited

HRH Princess Alexandra meets four Home-Start volunteers
As the sun shone down on April 28th, and the smiles on the faces of the children erupted as they saw a "real Princess", all the hard work that Home-Start Herefordshire had done paid off.

To mark their 25th anniversary they invited Home-Start patron HRH Princess Alexandra to attend their family fun day.

Whilst the little girls were delighted to be in the company of a princess, some of the boys were more impressed with the Lord Lieutenant in his formal regalia - complete with sword.

One little girl took the princess by the hand and asked to have her picture taken, because said the little girl, "I'm dressed like a princess."

Princess Alexandra spent her time talking with Home-Start staff, volunteers and family members before moving on to a sponsors' reception where she met the trustees and sponsors of the 25th anniversary appeal.

As well as the royal visit, there were many more activities to enjoy on the day. There were activities for all the family including a parachute demonstration, face painting, gift stalls, (including a chocolate stall that the princess was particularly taken with), a fire engine, puppet shows, mini tennis, rides and much more.

Jill Hiscox, scheme manager, said "Thank you to everyone who has made this day possible, and to all those who over the last 25 years have given their support and time."

Artist Clare Herne (pictured centre left) has been working with the scheme to create an anniversary "family portrait" logo. Clare and her family presented a framed copy to the princess as a souvenir of the day.
