Senior coordinator of Home-Start Newark receives an MBE
Elaine Rossall, senior co-ordinator at Home-Start Newark, was nominated for an award by her staff and received her MBE in the January 2009 New Year Honours. She has worked as both a volunteer and as a member of staff at Home-Start for more than 18 years.
In June, Elaine attended a reception at Buckingham Palace to receive her MBE and said: "We had a fabulous day at the Palace. Prince Charles asked me whether we have enough volunteers and do we manage to recruit more when we need them. He was most charming.
"The staff were all so welcoming and put us all at ease. It felt very special to have the MBE given to me, but I really feel this is for all of us who work so hard to support families within Home-Start and to all those volunteers who have selflessly over many years given their valuable time. It was a very special day that I will never forget."

On the announcement of the award, Wendy said, "I feel quite overwhelmed at being awarded this honour but delighted that it is associated with Home-Start. It is a privilege to be a trustee of Home-Start UK and to be part of the Home-Start family. I am constantly filled with admiration at the commitment of the staff and volunteers working throughout Home-Start in the UK and other countries, and have heard from families themselves the value they place on the friendship and practical support their receive from Home-Start's service. I want to continue to support Home-Start in whatever way I can."
