Carol Brown, a regional manager at Home-Start UK and Lara Parker, scheme manager at Home-Start Dacorum were both invited to talk at the 2008 Labour and Conservative party conferences.

Lara Parker was invited to the Labour party conference and shared the main stage with Prime Minister, Gordon Brown as he gave his speech. She descibed the experience of promoting the work of Home-Start as "wonderful!" Lara gave a three minute speech about the funding difficulties of the voluntary sector at a local level. She spoke with Hazel Blears MP and is looking forward to developing a relationship with the Minister. In the conference hall, Lara was stopped on several occasions by supporters, volunteers and trustees of Home-Start schemes across the country applauding the work of the charity.

Carol Brown was asked to talk at the Conservative party conference by Chris Grayling MP. Carol gave a ten minute speech on the main stage about the work of Home-Start. Her talk was part of a 'Welfare afternoon' session looking at aspects of broken society but in particular at 'parenting' and the 'generational challenge'. Afterwards Carol spoke with Davina Rankin MP who Carol described as "really interested in Home-Start." They also spoke about the long-term future of funding the voluntary sector.
