Elaine Rossall, senior co-ordinator at Home-Start Newark, was nominated for an award by her staff and received her MBE in the January 2009 New Year Honours. She has worked as both a volunteer and as a member of staff at Home-Start for more than 18 years.
During that time Home-Start Newark has offered support to over 1,000 families in the area. Elaine said, "Many of the children are now grown up and I meet them in Newark, which is fabulous. Many of the parents who have had support go on to become volunteers themselves and that is especially nice."
Elaine began volunteering for Home-Start when her youngest child started school, she says that she loves the organisation and sees her MBE as something for everyone involved with Home-Start Newark. She said: "I think Home-Start is great and the volunteers are fabulous. They give up their time so selflessly. I am really proud, I can't tell you how much this means to us. It is for all of us, all the people over the years who have been involved."
