Rita Mather, trustee and volunteer of Home-Start Stafford & District, is completing the 500 mile Camino Way to raise much-needed funds for her local Home-Start.
The walk will take Rita, her friends and family all the way from the South West of France across the Pyrenees to Santiago in North West Spain. The walk, 'The Walk of St James', is part of a collection of routes throughout Europe which have been used by pilgrims for over 1,000 years.
Rita set off on the 8th September, and will be walking 15 miles a day for the next 33 days.
Cynthia Roscoe, chair of Home-Start Stafford and District said: "This walk is a long and arduous trek and we wish all of the team our very best. We appreciate their efforts in raising funds for our local Home-Start."
Last year, Home-Start Stafford and District supported 60 families and over 100 children across the Stafford and Stone area. This year they have seen a large increase in referrals coming from families and health professionals needing Home-Start support. Currently they have 30 families that are waiting for a volunteer.
