Journalist flies in from Japan to find out more about the work of Home-Start
Mayumi Obikane a journalist from the prestigious Asahi Shimbun newspaper contacted Home-Start International to ask to visit a Home-Start scheme in the UK.
Home-Start is currently being set up across Japan and Mayumi wanted to find out how it works elsewhere in the world. Her aim was to find out how the charity works here in the UK, to look at how we support families, how we fundraise and work with local and national government.
Mayumi paid a visit to Home-Start Guildford (pictured here) where she was able to meet both a volunteer and a mum of twins who is supported by Home-Start. She also spoke with Debbie Vivers, senior cordinator and Ruth Jubert, chair of trustees at Home-Start Guildford. Debbie said: "It was great to be able to host a visit like this. It's nice to see how people from across the world are interested in the work that we do and the support that we offer families."
Vivien Waterfield, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Home-Start UK was also interviewed and was able to give an overview of the charity's work including information on how we raise funds and our safeguarding children policies.
