Ten year old Rebecca Cundhill, from Leicester, has won the national competition to design a t-shirt for Home-Start and Lands' End.
In April this year Lands' End, the home shopping clothing specialist, invited Home-Start to become its charity partner. This was to celebrate the launch of Lands' End's new kids clothing collection.
As part of this celebration, primary school children from across the UK were asked to design a fun design to go on a t-shirt. The winning design will take pride of place on a t-shirt in the September catalogue. Every one of Rebecca's t-shirts sold will raise money for Home-Start.
The judging panel was made up of representatives from Land's End and Home-Start. They looked at over 1,500 entries. But the judges were unanimous in picking the winner: ten year old Rebecca Cundhill from St John the Baptist Primary School in Leicester. (See her design, top right).
Rebecca likes animals and wanted a t-shirt that both boys and girls can wear. She said: "They all cheered in assembly when it was announced. A lot of children said they wanted to buy my t-shirt and even one of my friends wants me to sign their t-shirt when they get it."
Sue Peak-Redhead, corporate fundraiser for Home-Start UK said:
"Judging the competition was really difficult with so many fabulous and imaginative entries, but we had some chuckles too! The whole thing is really exciting, and such fun too!
“This partnership has so many benefits for Home-Start, both nationally and locally; some obvious - some hidden.
- Our name and the nature of our work has been delivered to primary schools all across the UK
- Over 1,500 participating school children have heard and talked about Home-Start
- Our name is also being brought to the attention of thousands of Lands’ End customers, website visitors and catalogue mailing list – i.e. potential volunteers and supporters
- Our logo will be on every t-shirt sold
- and last but by no means least... every t-shirt sold will raise precious funds for us to continue to support nearly 73,000 children and their families across the UK"
The t-shirt will be available to buy in September 2010 from Lands' End. To find out more about the competition, the runners up and how to order a catalogue, please click here.
