Home-Start: support & friendship for families

"The things I do for my mum!" says Matthew Bews, son of Home-Start's chief executive.

Matthew Bews is taking part in the 2009 Reading Half Marathon to raise funds for Home-Start.

Matthew has grown up with Home-Start. His mum, Kay Bews, chief executive of Home-Start UK, started off at Home-Start Reading over twenty one years ago. So from the age of twelve onwards, Matthew has been aware of the important work that Home-Start carries out across the UK. (Pictured to the right is Matthew 'in training' with his mum Kay Bews, who is not in training!)

Matthew said: "I have two children of my own, and I know how stressful it can be at times. But I also know how much support Home-Start can offer families and because of this, I am happy to run for Home-Start in this year's Reading Half Marathon."

The half marathon takes place on 29 March 2009. Matthew is also treating this run as preparation and training for his first full marathon that he wants to run in 2010.

"I am really looking forward to the half marathon. I took part in it two years ago with a group of colleagues, supporting the primary school where we all taught. We raised together around £1000. Now I am going for £500 on my own, but knowing that I am running for such a worthwhile cause spurs me on - and I could hardly say no to my mum, could I!" said Matthew.
