Nine Home-Starts from across England have been successful in securing funding from the latest round of Big Lottery's 'Reaching Communities' programme. Between them they have secured almost £2 million.
Reaching Communities is an extremely popular Big Lottery programme in England and competition for its funds is really fierce.
The fact that nine Home-Starts received funding from this pot of money highlights the important role they play in their local communities, supporting some of the most disadvantaged people.
Home-Start grants ranged from £90,000 to £476,035. The successful Home-Starts were:
Home-Start Aylesbury
Home-Start Chorley
Home-Start East Lindsey
Home-Start Meon Valley
Home-Start Nottingham
Home-Start Shepway
Home-Start South Hams
Home-Start South Oxford
Home-Start South West Lincolnshire
Home-Start Chorley & South Ribble are delighted with their grant of £476,035 from the Big Lottery Fund. This five year grant will ensure that the scheme continues to run six Family Support Groups across the two boroughs. These groups offer support to families with young children together with fun, play activities following a ‘Family Learning’ programme. The grant will also ensure that families who require a more intensive home visiting support are able to request this from Home-Start.
Carole Lee scheme manager of Home-Start Chorley & Ribble said ‘We are delighted to be awarded this grant which will be a major boost to family support across the two boroughs. The project will have a significant impact on the lives of hundreds of parents and their children over the next five years and together with funding from other sources will give our project some stability’.
Lynne Richards, Director of England for Home-Start UK said: 'Whilst this is fantastic news and hugely deserved for the nine successful Home-Starts, we have to remember that many local Home-Starts are facing huge fundraising difficulties at this time. They have to dedicate a lot of their time to applying for extra sources of income and external funding in a very difficult financial climate.'
