Tam Baillie, Scotland's Commissioner for Children and Young People visits children, parents and staff at Home-Start Glasgow South
Home-Start Glasgow South hosted a visit for the Children and Young People's Commissioner for Scotland. Called 'A RIGHT wee blether', the idea behind the visit was to create a 'creative conversation' with very young children to find out more about their own thoughts and feelings and how they express them.
Children between the ages of two and five were encouraged to have their very own creative conversation using their own forms of expression and by answering five questions -
- How are you feeling today?
- What makes you smile?
- Who is special to you?
- You are given a special star, where would you put it?
- What would you like to change?
Tam Baillie spent time with parents and children who attend Home-Start Glasgow South's family group in Pollokshaws to talk in more detail about 'A RIGHT wee blether' which is being rolled out across Scotland. He said: "A RIGHT wee blether will allow the very youngest children across Scotland to express their thoughts and ideas. The project involves an adult spending some dedicated time with a child to explore and answer [the] five questions."
Maureen Trumper from Home-Start UK, (Scotland) said:
“Even very young children have opinions, views, likes and dislikes. We are delighted that Tam Baillie visited Home-Start Glasgow South’s family group. As a charity that works with the under fives, we understand the need to communicate effectively with this age group. Developing their social skills, confidence and emotional well being; all these things contribute to a child being ready for school and their future development.”
