Staff at Toyota transform Home-Start South Derbyshire's family garden
A team of production line workers from Derbyshire-based Toyota have transformed Home-Start South Derbyshire's back garden.
Staff from Toyota used time freed up by the firm's current production downturn to volunteer for Home-Start.
Eight volunteers gave the garden a 'Ground Force' style makeover so that the families supported by Home-Start can grow their own vegetables. During the intensive two day event, the team cleared the existing concrete areas, built raised seedbeds for vegetable growing and created a 'living wall'. Toyota covered the cost of all the materials for the garden makeover with support from the Toyota Fund for Europe.
Ken Harrington, chairman for Home-Start South Derbyshire said: "We can't think of a more fantastic way to kick start our 25th anniversary celebrations than with the opening of this growing garden which will help families save money, grow healthy food and have lots of fun doing it. We greatly appreciate the support from Toyota which has given a new way of working with families; it has also enabled partnership working within the community."
