News Release

NEW DIRECTOR FOR HOME-START WALES

4 April 2006

Sara Vaughan takes up her new post as Director of Home-Start Wales
Sara Vaughan has taken up her new post as director of Home-Start Wales.

Home-Start is the UK's leading family support charity. It recruits and trains volunteers to support parents with children under five years old. The organisation works across the UK and in British Forces bases in Germany and Cyprus. It is the leading family support charity in the UK and its service is open to everyone. Its home visiting work is unique.

Last year in Wales 566 volunteers supported more than 2,000 families and more than 4,000 children. The charity has 22 schemes in the country.

Sara Vaughan has worked in the voluntary sector since 1980. First at Scope as a regional manager for the South East and London. She then became a regional manager for Relate working in Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man and England. Most recently she has been with the RSPCA in Wales. At Home-Start she joins a group of four directors who develop and guide the charity's work across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales.

She says, "Home-Start is an energetic organisation. And this is a very exciting time to join the charity.

"I'm looking forward to working with the 22 existing Home-Start schemes in Wales, and to opening a few more too. I'm enjoying getting to know the volunteers who support families at home, and to the volunteer trustees who run the charity's local Schemes. They are the life blood of our charity.

"I also want to make use my and Home-Start's contacts in the Welsh Assembly and in the Welsh voluntary sector to help Home-Start develop and grow in the next few years," she continued.

Families are referred to Home-Start for a broad variety of reasons: isolation, physical or mental illness, disability, bereavement, multiple births, or simply finding parenthood difficult to cope with. We support them for anything from a couple of months to a number of years - as long as they need help and have at least one child under five," she continued.
