As a male volunteer I can offer a different perspective from the female volunteers and my hours are normally spent with the family doing practical things such as playing football with the children, helping dads make appointments and assisting with DIY

I was quite excited by the idea because the ad said that they were looking for male volunteers as well as females.
Volunteering for Home-Start came just at the right time for me, I had always been interested in volunteering and I had time on my hands. Giving up three hours a week was manageable and I really liked the idea of doing something positive for someone else.

I was a home visiting volunteer for a year before I was asked by my local scheme to sit on the management committee, (of which I am now chairperson). That was three years ago and I have no intention of stopping my support for Home-Start.
