Frequently Asked Questions about being a Home-Start trustee

Can anyone be a trustee?

Most people over 18 can be trustee. But there are some exceptions, for instance if someone has been convicted of an offence involving deception, or has previously been removed as a trustee.

Are trustees paid?

Trustees are volunteers, so they don't get paid. However, travel costs and other expenses incurred in the course of work are reimbursed.

How big a commitment is being a trustee?

Home-Start trustees spend an average of 10 hours a month on their duties. It's an important role, carrying legal and financial responsibilities, which will require time and commitment.

Do new trustees receive advice and support?

All new trustees receive a full information pack and have an induction programme organised for them. Trustees are also invited to regular regional training days.
