1 Million Minutes

Thank you for your interest in joining Home-Start and Good Morning Britain in volunteering your time to end loneliness. Because isolated families can't wait

Being a parent can be lonely and over-whelming. Home-Start works with parents to build on their strengths so that they can give their children the best start in life. Our incredible volunteers are the heart of Home-Start, offering non-judgemental, compassionate and confidential support that truly makes a difference.

We are proud to be part of Good Morning Britain's '1 Million Minutes' campaign, asking the public to pledge their time to help end loneliness.

Get started: If you have not already done so, please pledge your minutes to GMB, then complete our form to begin your Home-Start volunteering journey.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Home Visiting Volunteer

180 minutes a week for a year

This unique volunteer role provides practical and emotional support to families with young children. Volunteers work alongside parents, in their own homes, to help them manage tasks and develop the skills, confidence and strength they need to nurture their children.

Family Group Volunteer

180 minutes a week for 6 months

Home-Starts run a number of groups designed to bring parents with shared experiences together and help them feel less isolated. Trained volunteers support at all groups, ensuring they can be there for parents and their little ones.

Remote Support Volunteer

180 minutes a week for a year

Through regular weekly conversations, whether on the phone or via video meeting platforms, volunteers provide emotional support to help parents through the challenges they face.

Office Support Volunteer

180 minutes a month for a year

Help behind the scenes at a local Home-Start. Using their own unique skills, volunteers can get involved with a myriad of tasks, from answering phones to maintaining databases or creating social media content.

Community Champion

60 minutes a month for 6 months

Help spread the word about Home-Start so that we can reach more families and attract more volunteers. This could include manning a stall at a community gathering, sharing information to online and offline groups or bag packing for events.

    Home-Start Hour

    60 minutes (one off)

Help to amplify the voice and work of Home-Start. This could include attending an information session to learn about our work, joining a family voices focus group, creating or sharing social media content or sharing your own parenting experiences as a way to help families.

Complete this form to begin your volunteer journey:
