Home-Start UK and our vice-president, Alastair Stewart, were very proud to take part in the BGC Charity Day in Canary Wharf on Monday 12 September.

Home-Start’s Snowflake Appeal was chosen to be one of the fantastic charities to benefit from the annual celebrity-packed fundraising event.

BGC Partners is a global financial services company and their annual charity day is held at the company’s offices in London, New York and around the world. Over the past 11 years, the BGC Charity Day has raised over $125 million for good causes around the world, transforming thousands of lives.

The BGC Charity Day was established after the organisation was devastated by the loss of more than 600 friends and colleagues in New York on September 11 2001.

Ever since then BGC have held one of London’s most prestigious fundraising days. They raise money for charities in the UK and New York and to support the families of those who were lost in the attacks on the Twin Towers and the families of the emergency service personnel who gave their lives on that day.

Money is raised through celebrities ‘trading’ on the phones with clients and clinching deals, as well as from BGC and their team donating all profits from their trading during the day.

Our vice-president, Alastair Stewart and a team from Home-Start UK were on hand to tell members of the BGC team about our life-changing work and how their support will improve lives for families. They also gave out snowflake cookies and Snowflake Appeal wrist bands.

Head of fundraising at Home-Start UK, Sue Thorn said “The BGC Charity Day is one of London’s most prestigious fundraising events, and it is fantastic to see so many celebrities give up their time to help raise so much money for incredible causes. We are very proud that Home-Start has been part of the event and our vice-president, Alastair, has been tireless in telling people about the crcuial work our volunteers do with families facing tragedy and hardship.”
