Snowflake AppealAbout our appeal Every child Home-Start supports is as unique and fragile as a snowflake. Right now thousands of young children are experiencing hardship or tragedy through no fault of their own. Many families need support to get through some very tough times and this is where Home-Start can help. Sometimes we are their last chance. You can raise money any time you like for the Snowflake Appeal. But we go big on it from 1 November to 31 January each year. You will help us reach thousands of fragile and vulnerable children across the UK. And thank you to the wonderful folk at LoveCrochet, Bella Coco and Three Bears Yarn who made it all possible by creating crochet kits and patterns specially for us all. After the appeal to crochet a snowflake for a child was launched in October, they arrived by the sackload every day in the post - including from the Netherlands, Australia and California. We were overwhelmed by the response. First of all, we displayed them at The Christmas Hand Made Fair in Manchester. Our ambassador, Kirstie Allsopp (left), came along to look at them all. And here is our video of what she saw, so you can have a look yourself: Then we packed up all the snowflakes and sent them to local Home-Starts around the UK, to give to children and families as a decoration at Christmas. Here are just a few of the messages from local Home-Starts letting us know that they have arrived. Thank you to everyone who took the time to create one – or more – of the wonderful snowflakes for our appeal. You are an amazing community of supporters and are helping to transform the lives of chldren and their families right across the country. For 2016, look out for our new crochet kit and pattern, to "Crochet a snowflake brooch and wear it with pride". And if you can have a crafternoon or a coffee morning with your friends, and make even more brooches to sell - you could help us raise more money for children facing tragedy and hardship this winter.
