Join us as we trek towards the picturesque snowcapped peaks and observe the natural beauty of the Tanzanian landscape. You'll be trekking through a blend of diverse terrains from jungle to volcanic craters before reaching the highest point of Mount Kilimanjaro, Uhuru Peak.

Accommodation: Before and after the trek you will stay in 2-3* hotels. During the trek you will be camping on the mountain. Both will be on twin basis sharing with someone of the same gender and similar age when possible.

Climate: The temperature at the base of the mountain will be very different to what you'll experience as you climb higher. In general you can expect temperatures between 16-34C however this will decrease as you climb and will get a lot cooler at night. The climb will take you through different micro climates from tropical to desert and all the way through to glacial at the summit!

The toughest challenge we offer. It will require dedicated training, and is not for faint hearted. The challenges are extreme but the sense of achievement overwhelming.

Itinerary

DAY 1: London to Kilimanjaro
Depart London for Tanzania. Upon arrival we transfer to Arusha town for a trip briefing and chance to relax before the challenge begins

DAY 2: Start of the trek to Machame Camp
Our challenge starts today at Machame Gate (1743m), the beginning of our route up the mountain. We start at a steady pace through the lush rainforest giving us the chance to spot some of the colourful birds and wildlife that call this area home. Our campsite tonight is Machame Camp at 3100m. Trekking time approx 5-7 hours.

DAY 3: Machame Camp to Shira Caves
After our first night under canvas we wake early for a hearty breakfast before we set off for our second day trekking. We leave the rainforest today and entre moorland plains scattered with rocks and heather. Our camp tonight is by Shira Caves which sits at 3840m. Trekking time approx 4-6 hours.

DAY 4: Shira Caves to Barranco Camp
We leave camp behind us this morning and head east for our ascent to the Lava Tower at 4,600m. The scenery dramatically changes as we head into the Barranco Valley where we are met by huge senecio plants before we set sight upon our camp at 3,900m. Trekking time approx 6-7 hours.

DAY 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Valley
Our challenge this morning is the Barranco Wall which we can see from camp. The path to the top is steep but we are rewarded with stunning views across Karanga Valley where we will camp tonight at 4040m. Trekking time approx 4-5 hours.

DAY 6: Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp
This morning's walk is a short but steep uphill climb across barren landscapes with lots of boulders and rocks. Tonight we will have the chance to rest and take in Kilimanjaro's neighbouring peak before our final push to the summit tomorrow! Trekking time approx 4-5 hours

DAY 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
Our trek this morning begins very early and we ascend slowly but surely following the trail of torches in the distance heading towards the summit. This will be a tough day but will certainly provide lots of memorable moments as by sunrise we should be near Stella Point (5750m), which lies on the crater rim. From here we continue our trek to the Uhuru summit (5895m), the roof of Africa! After our celebrations here we descend back down to Millennium Camp (3000m), our final home on the mountain, with a rest stop at Barafu Camp on the way. Trekking time approx 10-12 hours

DAY 8: Millennium Camp to Hotel
Our final trek down the mountain through rainforest leads us the Mweka gate where we collect a certificate of ascent and say goodbye to the mountain. Tonight the celebrations commence with a chance to party with our new trekking buddies and reflect on the incredible challenge we've completed together! Trekking time approx 5 hours

DAY 9: Free Day
Today is a free day to relax at the hotel or take a trip into town before we transfer to the airport for our flight back to London

DAY 10: Arrive London

Whats included:

Flights and all internal travel, accommodation, all meals during trekking days, water, local guides, Skyline Tour Leader and UK Doctor. Camping equipment is provided, except sleeping bag and mat.

What's not included:

Personal travel insurance, airline taxes (due to their fluctuating nature we will confirm this amount 6-8 weeks before departure; for this trip we estimate these will be £<%=strSurcharge%>), local tips, 2 meals, and any additional activities.

Passport & Visas:

A valid ten-year passport with at least one year to run is essential. Entry into Tanzania requires a visa for most nationalities, including UK citizens. At the current time this costs £40 available in person or by post from the Tanzanian High Commission or on arrival in Tanzania at US$50 cash, two passport photos will be needed. Skyline will send your instructions on how and when to apply for your visa approximately 3 months before the trip departs.

Vaccinations:

We recommend you are vaccinated against Hepatitis A, Typhoid & Polio. You must have had a Tetanus injection in the last 10 years. To gain entry to Tanzania you must provide a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate, which should be carried with you at all times. Yellow Fever is compulsory for all passengers coming from a connecting flight from Kenya or Ethiopia. Malaria prophylactics are recommended for the lower elevations, despite being at altitude for much of your trek. As always you should contact your GP or travel clinic for the latest information.

Food:

Being a tropical country, fresh fruit and vegetables are plentiful and are often used in traditional dishes such as stews and rice dishes. Most dietary requirements can be catered for, please advise us at point of booking.
