John and Max sitting together

Every Christmas, Max loved to go to Granny’s house, where she’d cook Max’s favourite Nigerian dish, Jollof rice. They didn’t have a Christmas tree, but there was plenty of food, gifts and love. When she died last year it was devastating for Max and John, Max’s dad. For Max, this was the second major death in his young life.

Being a parent has never been easy. It can be lonely, frustrating, heart breaking and over-whelming. Life-changing events can happen to anyone. That is why Home-Start is ready to support families through their toughest times.

“Home-Start Central Lancs came into our lives at a time when we really needed them. Our volunteer looks out for us and I feel like we are being cared for.”

“I’d started to think about how to prepare Max for a dry Christmas when our volunteer turned up with a Christmas Tree and some food. I’m so grateful for this help. It’s given us something to look forward to and be excited about. When Max opened the door he said “Daddy, whenever this lady turns up nice things happen” – he is right about that.” John Egbeyemi
