Congratulations to James, Lee, Ben, David and Alastair from Dunelm who have not only completed the Yorkshire Three Peak challenge, they have reached their fundraising target of £1,000.

The team, who all work in the IT team at Dunelm’s Store Support Centre in Leicestershire, finished the 24 mile trek through the Pennines an hour under their target time.

The challenge took them to the top of three mountains called Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. To make the event tougher, it has to be completed in under 12 hours and includes 5,200 ft (1,586 m) of ascent.

Writing afterwards, James said, “After 11 gruelling hours, one knee injury, several blisters, red hot feet and plenty of aches and pains we finally achieved our goal and completed our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 10:58:40.”

Although the suggested route is 24 miles, the team made a last minute change, which increased it by two miles.

“We decided to change our route last minute after some advice from a local guy who had done the route several times before,” said James. “Starting out with Wernside which he'd suggested was the hardest and would be best to tackle first, we then pressed on to Ingleborough finishing up with Pen-Y-Gent. What a great effort by everyone involved with everyone making it back in under 12 hours, we were blessed with great weather that turned a little chilly on the summit.”

James and the team were raising money on the Home-Start UK website and so far they have raised £1,005. You can add to their total by making a donation on their fundraising page.

“A big thank you to everyone that have donated already,” says James. “We all really appreciate your support.”
