Home-Start’s film, The Reunion, has won a People’s Choice Award in its category at the Smiley Charity Film Awards.

The Smiley Charity Film Awards recognises the amazing ways that charities use films to tell the story of their work. From tiny local charities, to huge international organisations, all films are celebrated at the awards ceremony in London’s Leicester Square.

The Reunion tells the story of Sam, her daughter Molly and their volunteer Marie. Marie supported Sam 20 years ago, when Sam was experiencing postpartum psychosis. Our film brings Sam and Marie together for the first time since that support ended two decades ago, and Sam has a surprise for Marie – she has brought along Molly.

The awards splits films into categories based on whether they are short and longform and then into income bracket. For each category, there is a judge’s winner, and a people’s choice winner based on the number of votes that the film received.

We are delighted, and very proud, to say that Home-Start UK’s film won the People’s Choice award in its category.

Home-Start head of communications, Matthew Hann, said:

We feel incredibly privileged that Sam and Marie have allowed us to tell their story, and we think that it perfectly represents the long-lasting impact that Home-Starts have had with countless families over the past 50 years.

Thank you to everyone who responded to our prompts and requests and voted for the film. This is an award for the whole Home-Start network.”

The award-winning film is available on YouTube. We hope that you find it useful, and that you love it as much as we do.

The Charity Film Awards have been created to celebrate the success of film in fundraising, to increase exposure of charity films and to encourage donations for good causes. The awards are open to all registered charities, community interest companies (CICs) and social enterprises within the UK.
