Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Home-Start UK is committed to equality, inclusion and creating better lives for all families, and as part of that commitment we have now released our equity, equality, diversity and inclusion action plan. For 50 years, we’ve sought to tackle inequality faced by families. However, as understanding of discrimination, anti-racism, accessibility and diversity has developed, we acknowledge that we have much to do to be fully diverse and inclusive. Home-Start UK is wholeheartedly committed to ensuring equity, equality, diversity and inclusion (EEDI) is central to our work and are open and willing to work hard to improve. In June 2023 Home-Start UK released its equity, equality, diversity and inclusion action plan, which you can find here. As part of our federation-wide Strategic Framework, our Inclusion Commitment calls for us to: Address inequalities in all we do – in terms of access to early years’ and family support, by reviewing our reach, enhancing our own diversity, ensuring inclusive ways of working, and using our influence to effect change. Our vision is for Home-Start to be a charity where every family, every volunteer, every member of staff and every supporter, funder and partner feels welcomed and valued as part of our movement. To shape our work and priorities, Home-Start UK has developed an Equity, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan summarised below: Action Area Statement of Intent What Progress Will Look Like Building a Culture of Inclusion We are a charity that lives up to inclusive values, celebrates and embraces difference and where all colleagues feel comfortable in bringing their whole selves to work Our people have growing confidence and competence around all aspects of equalities, diversity and inclusion, and are open to learning more The principles of EEDI are embedded in the organisation and help deliver our charity’s public benefit. Diversity and Representation amongst our people Diverse people work and volunteer at Home-Start UK, and we are tackling underrepresentation in terms of ethnicity, gender, disability, class and age in our staff team and Trustee Board and supporting diverse representation across the Home-Start federation Our recruitment is socially inclusive Our staff, volunteers and trustees are increasingly representative in terms of gender, ethnicity, disability and age Our impact is greater because our work is informed by different perspectives, experiences and skills Accessibility and Equity throughout our work Our work is fully accessible and inclusive for all individuals and communities we serve and we equip local Home-Start’s to build their inclusive offer for all families Our work is inclusive and reflects the diversity of our population Obstacles to participation are reduced, and our work is designed and open for everyone Our standards are high across policies, procedures and practice A voice for equity, equality and anti-racism Using our leadership role at Home-Start UK, we are acknowledging and tackling racism, inequality and exclusion as systemic barriers to parents and children getting the support they need to thrive. We are achieving positive change for families and children who are marginalised and discriminated against We are recognised by the Home-Start network and families as demonstrating active leadership on EEDI We advocate for national systemic change to address inequalities within family support The EEDI Action Plan at Home-Start UK is led by our Chief Executive and progress reported to the Board of Trustees and this work is supported by an active group of diversity champions in our organisation.
