Mental health problems are common during pregnancy and in the months after the birth. Both mums and dads can be affected, struggling to cope with issues such as post-natal depression, anxiety and isolation.

Sarah had had a traumatic birth with her daughter Lucy, only to find out, three months later, they had another baby on the way. They were already overstretched mentally, physically and emotionally. Her husband was off work with stress and mental health issues and she was finding it hard to manage at home.

Home-Start is there for parents when they need us most, providing emotional support and practical help, helping to build their confidence and self-esteem and connecting them with other specialist local services where needed.

Every year, our network of family support volunteers helps 27,000 families and 56,000 young children, ensuring that no child’s future is limited because of their family background or circumstances.
