About the Role

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Executive, the Assistant Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement is responsible for the development of Home-Start UK’s fundraising and supporter engagement activities ensuring that more people are inspired to connect and contribute to our work and make a real impact to the lives of children and families across the UK. Alongside developing Home-Start UK’s national funding and supporter base, the post-holder will also use their expertise to develop resources and joint initiatives that local Home-Start can engage with to drive income growth and build capacity throughout the network

Main purpose and scope of the role

  • Strategic leadership and departmental management of all Home-Start UK supporter engagement, individual giving and public fundraising activity
  • Developing and implementing a range of new initiatives and outstanding experiences to reach and retain our next generation of supporters and increase funds for Home-Start’s work at a national and local level
  • Building collaborative approaches and capacity across the Home-Start network in order to maximise impact
  • Ensuring all activities are in line with data privacy, fundraising standards and the approach of a values based charity


Key responsibilities include:

  1. Strategy development and programme implementation
  • Lead on the development and implementation of a Home-Start supporter engagement experience that will inspire more supporters to share their time, money and voice towards helping improve the lives of children and families across the UK.
  • Build a strong network of supporters to help influence, support and inform the ongoing development of sustainable income for the charity
  • Design and implement effective offline and online strategies to acquire and develop committed donors/supporters and to maximize income.
  • Lead fundraising and supporter engagement programmes with the Home-Start network that identify and capitalise on opportunities for collaborative working
  • Ensure that Home-Start UK has inspiring supporter engagement and fundraising offerings to engage audiences, including a strong case for support for donors and supporters
  • Work with the Deputy CEO in maintaining and building new high value relationships with individual donor and supporters 
  1. Fundraising and supporter engagement
  • Produce and implement strategic and tactical plans that increase the amount of income that is generated annually from the public, specifically from: individuals, major donors, challenge event participants and community sources
  • Transform our ability to drive data-led supporter engagement work using data to underpin decisions about effective fundraising and supporter engagement approaches
  • Deliver income targets and expenditure budgets for Individual Giving and Supporter Care and be responsible for monitoring progress and setting the budget on an annual basis.
  • Harness the use of digital tools, software and social media to drive fundraising and supporter engagement approaches
  • Manage supporter care and donations processes to deliver a quality supporter journey and maximize the lifetime value of donors and supporters
  • Manage the development of high quality, innovative on- and off-line supporter care materials and ensure they are professionally produced, effective and on brand
  • Inspire good practice and support learning to build fundraising capacity across the Home-Start network
  • Ensure all expenditure and resources are well targeted, effectively planned and monitored, and used to deliver maximum impact
  1. Compliance
  • Devise and implement procedures that demonstrate compliance with all relevant statutory requirements, industry standards and ethical values.
  • Oversee systems and processes that gather and record information on donors with due regard to GDPR and relevant fundraising legislation and best practice guidance across the four nations
  • Actively manage key risks including the likelihood of complaints or litigation
  1. Extended Leadership Team
  • Help drive an ambitious future for our work, secure funding and role-model a positive, collaborative culture, ethos and values
  • Help to identify and address where we can drive progress on diversity and inclusion across Home-Start UK and the wider network
  • Work with colleagues to help build the reputation and awareness of Home-Start’s important role in the family sector at national level with funders, policymakers and the media
  • Represent Home-Start externally, actively networking and maintaining regular contact with key partners in the voluntary, statutory and private sectors in order to build and strengthen relationships.
  • Ensure efficient and effective internal communication, information flows and foster co-operation between staff
  • Take part in Home-Start trustee and senior management meetings, staff meetings and annual conferences as required and present appropriate written reports as necessary.
  • Ensure the proper management of any delegated budgets; participate in budgeting and financial management at departmental and senior staff level as required

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

 Experience

  • First-class, senior level fundraising and marketing skills
  • In depth knowledge of the fundraising environment and of a range techniques and disciplines which will support the cost-effective generation of income
  • Proven experience and track record in fundraising, for example as demonstrated through relevant qualifications and training with recognised bodies
  • A deep understanding and strong track record of personally leading change and driving significant income growth and supporter engagement within equivalent and relevant operational environments.
  • Strong analytical and strategic planning skills, be a confident communicator, and have an in-depth knowledge of the fundraising market and regulation.
  • Deep understanding and experience of how digital technologies can underpin effective and data-driven supporter engagement
  • Excellent experience of driving supporter engagement activity including stewardship and relationship management to inform and influence income growth
  • Experience of driving change within a federated network would be an advantage

Travel

  • Willingness to travel around the UK and visit the head office in Leicester when required
