Representatives from Home-Start UK have joined a family group in Glasgow to celebrate the announcement of a new funding award raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Players of People's Postcode lottery have raised £400,000 for the Home-Start UK which will allow us to reach more families and recruit more volunteers to provide one-to-one support to parents and children.

To celebrate the partnership, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Home-Start UK, Theodora Karavasili-Campbell visited Home-Start Glasgow North and North Lanarkshire to hear from parents about the difference Home-Start makes to their community.

Commenting on her visit Theodora said “It was wonderful to see first-hand how funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery will help us continue to support our local Home-Starts as they do incredible work within their local communities. The group we visited had such a wonderful energy and it was great to hear how much the parents valued the group.

Home-Start volunteer Marilyn who supports the weekly group in Maryhill said “I look forward to the family group every week. Building relationships with the parents and children who come and seeing their confidence grow is very satisfying. I thought the opportunity to play with the children would be the reward but that is only one of the joys of being part of Home-Start.”

Home-Starts across the country have reported a dramatic increase in both demand for their services, and an increase in the severity of challenge facing the families they work with. Last year Home-Starts across the UK supported around 79,000 children and 47,000 families this is an increase of 20.8% since last year and up 35.5% over 10 years.

Home-Starts also received 35,712 referrals for support in that time period, an increase of over 10% on the year before, but could only provide support to 70% of those referrals. That is why the charity is looking to increase its capacity at both a local and national level to enable it to support more families.

Home-Start, which has been supporting families for over 50 years and funding from players of the Postcode Lottery will allow us to continue to support families most in need.
