Across the UK there are almost 170,000 charities working with millions of people each year. The Third Sector Awards recognise the life-changing work these organisations are doing and we were proud that Home-Start UK’s Head of Volunteering, Jennie Mann, was chosen to join the judging panel for the awards.

“I was honoured to be selected as a judge for the Third Sector Awards, it was incredible to hear the stories of some truly inspiring volunteers making a big impact every day, as well as seeing what is new, innovative and excellent in the sector. I also had the opportunity to meet with leaders of volunteers across the charity sector. We shared lots of ideas of how to get more people involved with our charities as well as sharing best practice”, said Jennie who was a part of the panel judging the awards for Small Charity, Big Impact; Enterprise; Volunteer Team of the Year; and Volunteer of the Year.

As a judge on the panel, Jennie’s role involved a series of steps to ensure the charities got the recognition they deserved. From shortlisting prior to meeting the other panel members to then meeting before the awards night itself to make their final decision. A lot of time and thought went into who won last Thursday evening.

The awards, which took place in London on Thursday 19th September, are a way for charities – big and small – to gain recognition in the work that they do to help the lives of those in the UK and around the globe. The awards were split into 24 categories ranging from ‘Volunteer of the Year’ to ‘Small Charity Big Impact’.
