The work of Home-Start’s 14,808 home-visiting volunteers has been shown to transform the lives of families and children, and it is the chance to work with families that motivates people to start volunteering for us in the first place.

The thank you I received made me realise how much we have sharedIn a poll on our website 46% of volunteers who took part said that they began volunteering for Home-Start because they wanted to work with families.

The Home-Start volunteers go on to provide tailor made support for 29,170 families in 288 communities right across the UK. It is the relationship that is built between a family and their volunteer that makes Home-Start’s work so unique, and it is why it has such a lasting impact.

This Volunteers’ Week we are celebrating the work of all of our volunteers, who are doing incredible work, often with very vulnerable families.

Over on our Facebook page, we asked volunteers for their favourite memories with families. You can read what they told us here.

Our poll has shown that for three-quarters of our volunteers being involved with families in their community is the main reason why they volunteer. While almost half said they volunteered to work with families, a further 22% said they wanted to be involved in the local community, and 8% said they wanted to meet new people.

It costs Home-Start just £22 a week to support a family with a volunteer who is committed to working with them. If you can help Home-Start UK to support 29,170 families and 63,308 children, please click here to make a donation. Thank you.
