“I had always hoped to be a teacher for a long time,” says Edinah, “However, now that I have gained a lot of experience working with children and families, homeless individuals and young people over the years, I think I will be venturing into Social Work.”

When Edinah’s family moved to Glasgow in 2013, they didn’t know anyone and reached out to Home-Start for support. After she had regained confidence, she realised that she wanted to give something back and to pass on her experience to other parents.

Edinah had the opportunity to become a Home-Start volunteer as part of her Education and Social Services degree she signed up and began the training.

Not only does she spend her time volunteering, supporting families and studying for her degree, Edinah also has many other roles to manage, “I create time around my foremost role as a mother of two lovely boys and then my university education. I find that time management is a key skill essential in fitting all these aspects of my life.”

The skills that Edinah has developed while juggling her time between all of her commitments has been invaluable. “The ability to work in a team, communicating with families, time management… I could go on,” she says. “I do apply all of these skills to my life.”

Edinah became a home-visiting volunteer in November 2016 and she was able to share her experience more widely when she joined Home-Start Glasgow North’s Board of Trustees as a volunteer representative in November 2017. “It’s been great being part of Home-Start Glasgow North, knowing their commitment to making positive change for children and their families.”
