Getting it right for every child Our experienced volunteers are trained and supported to work effectively within the Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC) approach. We also work towards GIRFEC by supporting parents to cope with adversity and build resilience. We help them improve their children’s wellbeing. We measure that change using the SHANARRI indicators: Safe – Developing warm, consistent parenting in a safe environmentHealthy – Understanding their child’s physical and mental health needs and the services availableAchieving – Making learning fun, understanding child development and supporting children to reach full potentialNurtured – Providing warm and caring family relationships that promote positive attachmentsActive – Creating or providing appropriate opportunities for play and recreation with their childrenRespected – Listening to their children and responding appropriatelyResponsible – Involving their children in roles within the homeIncluded – Expanding their children’s social networks and utilising community services Home-Start has a robust monitoring and evaluation system. This lets us show a child’s journey of change using the SHANARRI indicators. Every child in Scotland has a named person and Home-Start is committed to working in partnership with them.
